Friday Twist

Hey guys,

I'm working on a new project and haven't had time to create this week's Things I Like.  Trust me, it will be worth it! In the meantime here are a few of my favorite drawings I've been working on lately.  Enjoy!

More Macaroons!

I had so much fun the first time, I thought I'd try again.  This time I included the boxes.

Girls in Glasses

Being a bit of a nerd myself, I have a fondness for four-eyed females.  Isn't there just something sexy about a woman who deliberately chooses smarts?

Party Dresses

Whether it's a prom or a wedding, a knee-length sparkly shift, or a full blown ball gown...every woman loves to get dressed up.  I'm no exception.  I also love to draw them.

Things I Like: Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Every year for my birthday, no matter how broke I am *cough*2007*cough* I buy myself a box of chocolate covered strawberries.  It's the perfect indulgence that makes any girl feel like the queen of England.

Trench Coat Season?

Some may think that trench coat season has passed us by.  My opinion?  There is always a time for trench coats!  Take the following drawings for example and be inspired.

Am I wrong?

Louboutin Love

This is the point in my blog where I give you fair warning: I have a slight obsession with Christian Louboutin shoes. Considering how often I see them showcased on my tumblr feed, I can assume I'm not alone.  You'll see those red soles popping up every so often.  But if you are as in love as I am, hopefully you'll appreciate it!

Signs of Spring: Bags in Bloom

Apart from the gorgeous weather here in Houston (enjoying it for the microsecond that it lasts) we know spring has spring because designers have brought out the blossoms.  The following are just a selection of handbags complete with their own bouquet.

Style Set: Pink Champagne

Why drink champagne that has no color?  This gal wants hers like she wants her life: en rose!

Naturally she wears her favorite color with a Sonia Rykel Ruffled silk crepe de Chine. Her nails are perfectly matches with some O.P.I nail polish  (Step Right Up! will do perfectly).  To add some sparkle she dons a pair of Judith Ripka 'La Petite' Semiprecious Teardrop Earrings, in pink (of course!). To keep it a bit simpler she adds an Esprit headband with a simple bow and a Glint Ruffle Bow Framed Clutch. And while she's all sugar, she has no problem spicing it up with some Trésor In Love. Finally, we mustn't forget the champagne! The Veuve Clicquot Rose.

In Style's Shoe Obsession. Day 1

Being a bit more practical for the average gal, at least in terms of price and style, In Style is one of my favorite go-to magazines for fashion.  That doesn't mean they can't occasionally go a little wild and dream big...especially when it comes to shoes (and let's face it, what woman hasn't?).  For the next three days I've taken my favorite In Style Shoe Obsessions and drawn them out for your viewing pleasure.  It was almost as fun drawing and coloring these in as I imagine it would be to wear them.  I've included the prices just in case money is in fact an object for you.

Alaïa Chain-link Sandals $2680

Blamain Suede Buckle Ankle Boots $1195

Cesare Paciotti Excel Slingbacks $760

Christian Louboutin Jeweled Platforms $2830

Donna Karan New York Bird of Paradise Gladiators  $1390

Decisions, decisions!  Come back tomorrow for more!

Style Set: Preppy Librarian

I have to admit a certain fondness for books.  So much so that I dedicated an entire room of my home to books.   Actually right now it's dedicated to books and shoes as, conveniently enough, shelves made to house books are also perfectly sized to house shoes as well.  It only proves how awesome both are.

In honor of finishing putting together nine (yes NINE!) Ikea book/shoe shelves to create my home library, I decided to create a style set based the theme...with a little twist.  Below you have the Preppy Librarian.  Is she a nerd? Of course! But a stylish one.

In a playful ode to nerdiness, she sticks with the plaids and argyles while keeping it chic in a Joseph M. pink argyle sweater and a Nike Scroll Plaid Woman's Golf Skirt.  The Cutler and Gross Leopard-print glasses may or may not be prescription...you'll never know!  But they do make her look pretty smart.  When it comes to the classics, she waves off the faded, dusty, old paperbacks in favor of the prettily covered Penguin Classics.   She was also lucky enough to find one of her favorite titles, Emmawith a cool new cover.  To carry them all, she has her preppy book bag from Jack Willis.  When not carrying her favorite titles around, she keeps them safely stored in her home library using the cute Spisani Poodle Bookends.  She's loath to lend them out but when she does she keeps track of them with her Home Library Kit. And yes, her's does smell like a library.

Things I Like: 5 to Start

If you are any type of Chic Chick, then you love the Play section of Kate Spade's website. I especially love the design, color, and randomness of the Things We Love section.  It inspired me to dedicate a portion of this blog to Things I Like, which not only gives me an opportunity to test my drawing skills, but let you, dear readers, know a little bit more about the owner of this blog.  Each Friday I will be posting a drawing of something I like.

To get things started, I thought I'd give you a 5-for-1 special, which I thought would be fun to draw (and it was!).

Clockwise from upper left:
1. Hand painted bowls
2. Camembert cheese
3. Kooples' ad campaign (especially Andre and Marisca)
4. Glitter nail polish
5. Globes

Pink Shorts, Comfy Sweater

I saw these shorts over at Fashiontoast  and knew instantly I had to draw the photo.  I think it's the pink of the shorts.  In fact, I'm sure it's the pink of the shorts.  I also loved the cableknit sweater, completely ignoring the fact that I had to figure out a way to pull off drawing it..  I think this little study in drawing proves I should trust my whims from now on (but maybe work a little on the coloring...oh to have an ivory colored marker!).

Interiors: Books on a Heater

As you can tell from my links page, I'm fascinated with interior design, especially when it comes to books.  I found this little treasure via Love Me Amour and knew I had to draw it.  My first attempt at drawing books.  Not  too bad for a first go round.

Macaroon Chic

Confession: I've never tasted a Macaroon. This after having been in Paris at least 3 times (although in one instance I was limited to the airport). C'est la vie. It certainly gives me a good reason to head back one day soon.

In the meantime I'll have to enjoy their delectable chic-appeal via ink. Is there any other treat that comes in so many delightful colors? I have an inkling that macaroons and I are going to be acquainted with each other quite a bit on this blog. ;)

Style Set: Lemon Drop

The Lemon Drop is a little bit sourpuss and a little bit sweet.  She provides just the right amount of tartness to make one perk up and take notice.  Of course, with that color, how could anyone avoid it!
Click for larger image
She starts off with her Lela Rose silk and tulle dress, accompanied by a darling pair of lemon drop Lata K lemon topaz earrings and a sizzling pair of Nina platform sandals; perfect for bringig a bit of zing to your average cocktail party.  Her drink, naturally, is the Lemon Drop.  For daytime wear it's a fun pair of retro Wayfarer sunglasses and a few clangy bangles by Kate Spade and Luc Kieffer.   Lounging back on a Albhambra pilllow, while nibbling on some lemon jelly fruit slices,  a lemony yellow headband keeps the hair in place. A cute Juicy Couture tote carries all her daily necessities, the least of which is a box of lemonheads.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! Just a little blog with drawings of lovely things I find in the world of style and fashion.  Let's have fun and enjoy the pretty things.  I thought I'd start off with something a little iconic: the Hermès Kelly Bag.
